Baffle Thickness Question
I'm looking at constructing a new sump. I've got some scrap 1/8" glass sheets in my tool shed that I would love to use on this project to save money. I know 1/8" glass is too thin and likely will break under the pressure of the water. Do you see any issues if I glue two pieces of 1/8" glass together to create a thicker stronger baffle? Do you think this would work or should I just go buy 1/4" to ensure the baffles don't fail at some point.

I would opt to buy some 1/4" glass or 3/16". Won't have to worry about it breaking plus its not that expensive.

I use 1/4" thick and it works just fine. I suppose you could glue to peices together but make sure the seal is tight so that nothing (Detritus) can be trapped in between the 2 peices.

I've used 1/8in. glass before on a sump I had and didn't have problems. I found some precut pieces at Lowe's that were perfect for the 29g tank I was using as a sump. Unless you are running water at high volumn through the sump, it should be ok, especially if you glue/silicone two together. You do have to be more careful about cleaning and moving things around in the sump though. While the water flowing over/under won't break them, it's easy to bump it and cause it to crack.

google pressure locking sump baffles. Good stuff.
