Koralia Wavemaker

Anybody else seen this??? Nice but for the price I think I'd just go with the tunze!!!!

umm wonder how thats going to work out i tryed a light dimmer on 1 and it just bounces the propeler around no flow for 319 big ones i wouldent take the chance

The way the new koralia wave makers supposedly work is like a rheostat, never really shutting off but more of a slow spin to fast spin and back to slow spin with the variable being time on and amount of juice applied. But I was told that it only works with the new koralia's which have an updated switching mechanism to handle the load changes better.

Someone on reef central.com pointed this issue out also (works w/new koralia pump). He also complained about the unit not restarting after a power loss. Y'all are right; $300+ sounds a little steep for all the hassle. To bad.

Yeah, the info on the wavemaker says it only works with new "controllable Koralias". I'm sure those cost more now too!

The new controllable pumps cost a tiny bit more, like $10, than the originals. Someone on RC did a comparison to the Tunze and the Koralias still come out cheaper. With the Tunze you pay more for the powerhead and less for the controller, the Koralia is the reverse.

The new powerheads are 12V DC like the Tunze. That will eliminate the problem of the impeller bounce. I agree, it is overpriced though...
