My phyto will stay alive in the refrigerator for about 5 - 7 days. Any amount of time after 7 days the phyto will begin to die but still retain its nutrients for another 7 days.

The shelf life of phyto depends on how you decide to store it. The following is the approximate shelf life:

    Phytoplankton
    Room Temperature
    Alive, 1 day
    Spoil in, 2 days
    Refrigerated
    Alive, 5 - 7 days
Spoil in, 14 - 21 days (yellow in color)
    Frozen and Fresh
    2 - 3 months

    Brine Shrimp
    Room Temperature
Alive, Shrimp will suffocate and die within several days if kept in a container. Brine Shrimp swim towards light so if you keep a light above them they will last significantly longer.

    Refrigerated
    Alive, 1 - 2 days
    Spoil in, 7 days
    Frozen and Fresh
    2 - 3 months

A favorite for mine is to freeze the phyto and/or shrimp using ice cube containers. That way you don't have to thaw the entire batch every time you want to feed your reef and you significantly extend it's shelf life. But in doing this, of course, everything is dead and you have to be vigilant not to overfeed.

    Thank you

    Default What's left

What do you have left? I can use small brine for my dwarf seahorses or larger for my H. erectus. Let me know if you have any left.
