Thread: New to icecap ballast

    Default New to icecap ballast

I was wondering if y'all could give me some suggestions on where to hang my two icecap 660 ballasts. Do I need to cover the wires after I cut them to fit the canopy and lights? I am new to ballast; i've only used fixtures, so i'm really lost. I would appreciate any input and advice. Thanks!!
I am attaching a picture of aquarium and stand without the canopy. I hope it works.

Mount Ballast it in a dry location, out of the way of moisture, salt spray, and chance of water getting splashed on. If you are worried about sealing your connections use silicon but you can not operate until the silcon is completely dry.

I like to mount ballasts to the back side or top of the canopy where they're out of sight and in open air to stay cool. Also like to put a small stack of washers on the screws and underneath the ballast so as to create space under the ballast for air flow and cooling.

By covering the wires do you mean where the wires are running to the lights? If so, no they don't need to be covered as long as the coating is in tact and not cracked or whatever.

I use mughooks on the inside of my stand. Mughooks allow for the ballast to hang and get air all the way around.

Mike, i'll bring pictures later but there's a canopy but it doesn't have a top or back..I could put a piece of wood across the top or back, just to hold the ballast(s).

Can you mount them to the wall behind the tank?
