After much thought and consideration of opinions and reviews. I decided to skip the Xti and get the XSi.
A reputable online store got 1000 of them early and sold them in 2 hours this morning, I was not quick enough.
But, they will be widely available in next 2-3 weeks.

I would recommend getting the 5d which would allow you to shoot full frame based upon futher research or getting the Xti and just spending the difference on better glass. A great camera with so-so glass versus a so-so camera with great glass. The so-so camera with great glass will have the better shot.

I was in the same boat myself wanted XTi till i found out the XSi was coming out looked and looked some more and convinced myself to wait for the XSi. Now that its here I've convinced myself to get any body with good lenses.
