searching for clarity

Hey folks ... glas top of my aquarium has salt "stains". I've tried the dishwasher, I've tried scrubbing with a rag and vinegar, I've tried soaking paper towels in vinegar and leaving them on the glass for hours, then scrubbing with a rag and vinegar ... nothing works ... ... in the end I just smell like vinegar and my glass is not clear. Anyone have any ideas short of sandblasting?

Well ... the glass feels smooth, and when it’s wet, you can’t see the stains. It’s weird. If a flat razor works, I’ll feel like the biggest dumb&%& on the planet for not thinking of it myself I'll let you know.

soak for 24 hours in pool acid. It's stronger than vinegar.

can you just get rid of the glass top completely? b/c the stain will come back after time.It will give you a better chance of gas and air exchange,if the glass top is no longer there.

I agree with aquasport24. The less glass surfaces you have between the water and your bulbs the better (preferrably none).

yeah, muriatic acid works like a charm. but if possible I do agree with going with out the glass tops

i've gone with out glass for some time now and haven't had a problem since a suicide but other then that i agree no glass

Use eggcrate on top if needed to prevent fish from jumping out but allows better air exchange.
