?? Back up pumps

Due to my paranoid nature (I bought my generator), I was wondering what opinions people have on having duplicate pumps as back ups.
Some of these pumps may be hard to come by on a weeked. They are supposed to have "10 years of reliable service with no seals to leak". System up and running about 9 months.

Blueline 20 runs the skimmer circuit (not as critical).

Blueline 55 runs the closed loop.

Blueline 70 return/chiller circuit.

Should I buy duplicates? If so stick with Blueline or switch brands?

I think it would be much more reasonable to buy just one backup because during a blackout it's not like you need everything to be running, just the bare necessities of one to keep water circulating.

Yes sir. When you lose power, the only goal should be just to get by until the power returns. No lights, chiller, protien skimmer, calcium reactor, & no closed loop pumps. Your ultimate goal is to keep the oxygen level up by keeping the water turned. I would put at least a 1500va UPS on that return pump. They are about $250 at Altex for a Tripplite which is one of the better brands. Plug the UPS between your pump and surge protector\controller. HTH

I would recommend having a duplicate return pump only so that if you need to warrenty the pump you can just keep the newest pump as the backup. The closed loop isn't that big of a deal, but it's totally up to you.

It is called N+1 Technology. Where you keep an extra for back up just incase. If you have the money I would keep a backup for your return just in case. That way you can sleep better at night.
