Thread: Closed Loop Systems

    Default Closed Loop Systems

What's your take on closed loop systems? Can they replace the need for any additional forms of in-tank circulation? Anyone using the SCWD system? Worth the trouble on a 90 gallon tank?

If you do not want powerheads in the tank, CL is the WTG.
Tomanero uses a SWCD, I have seen the pictures!

yep if you dont mind drilling a few extra holes Closed loop is awesome and eliminates any need for powerheads in the tank.

You dont need to drill the tank for a closed loop... Just soft plumb it with flexible tubing.

as you get more and more addicted to the hobby and you start looking for more and newer equipment, you are eventually set up a closed loop system so....anything that is worth doing is worth doing right... you might as well just do it now.
as for the swcd, there cool but the 1st time your return pump sucks up sand ore something other that water, it will probably stop splitting the water. just make sure you don't have your return pump on a sand bed. good luck

Anyone want to share some photos of your setups? I've seen one or two but I am curious what others are doing. Thanks for the feedback!

yeah, plus if memory serves me, you lose the warranty if danner finds out you were running the mag externally... if they find out

I'm planning on setting up a 90g tank myself. I'm going to run the new 1" SCWD on my CL with a pump (not sure what kind yet) that puts out 1500 to 2000 gph. I think I will most likely only drill one hole for the intake on the CL. Then I plan on running the returns split by the SCWD into 4 outlets, 1 in each corner of the tank. I don't plan on drilling for the returns, rather I'm just going to hard plumb them up over the top of the tank. All of which will be hidden inside the canopy. It should have a clean look, be effective, and pretty simple to build.
