In SCWD Heck
Sorry to be a wet blanket, but to steal liberally from Scott Adams, I've just spent the afternoon in SCWD Heck. I've got two SCWDs that have been running off of a Snapper since about April of last year. One of them stopped switching about 6 wks ago. The second one stopped yesteray. I pulled both of them off in an attempt to clear them out and get them working again. The first one was simply broken - the internal mechanism was rattling around in the casing. The second one started switching after running some hot water through it for a while. However, after buying a new one to replace the broken one and reinstalling everything, the second one stopped switching again. After hot water failed to get it going again, I tapped it against the side of the sink, hoping to jar loose whatever was stuck in there. Just tapping it against the sink caused the internals to break apart. Being the curious type, I tried to crack it open to see how it worked. It took several two-handed swings WITH A FRAMING HAMMER to break into the casing. So they build a device that I can run over with my truck and not harm the casing, but the mechanism inside breaks apart with some gentle tapping? Whaaa.....?!?!?!
Long story short - in my experience, they're great when they work, but you won't get anywhere NEAR the 53,000 hrs touted on the 3iqVentures web site. When they break, don't count on being able to get them working again.
Been a frustrating day...
