Thread: RO/DI Bypass

    Default RO/DI Bypass

I am hoping to order my RO/DI system this week but the seller has me confused. They've mention that I can add a RO Bypass, which to my knowledge is actually a DI bypass. If I am not mistaken, this bypass is used to bypass the DI section as water from the DI is not good for drinking. What exactly does the Di section of the system do and is there any other reason to bypass it other than for drinking? My system will be installed in a spare bathroom so we wont be drinking the water from it. We will be using it for both the saltwater and softwater/freshwater tanks.

    Any info appreciated.

On mine, it bypasses the DI i beleive, but is then filtered again for taste. I think thats how it works. I dont think you need a bypass for your tanks.

i think they meant ro bypass. the ro bypass valve is to bypass ro water before it gets to the DI unit. i use it for drinking water and a fw tank

I talked to Jim at Filter Guys and he confirmed my original theory. The "RO Bypass" system is actually a DI bypass due to the fact the deionized water is bad for you. The idea being that deionized water is attracted to dissolved solids and if there are none present in the water then it will seek them whilst inside your body. Thrilling stuff, I know.
