Fleas

Ok, I took in a stray dog for a few weeks and finally found a new home for him. Even though I am now without the dog, I've discovered I've got a flea problem in my house. What is the best way to treat for them? Of course I have two fish tanks so they will have to be taken into consideration. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

If you have carpeting you can sprinkle Sevin Dust (powder) on the carpet,let it sit awhile and vacumn up.I'd then remove the vacumn bag and throw away.It's worked for me in the past.Might have to repeat it a time or two.

When you vacuum, put a flea collar in the bag that way it will kill the fleas that get sucked up. Carpet power and furniture sprays are probably your safest choice considering you have a tank and can't bomb the place. Also try treating your yard because anyone, people or pets, can be constantly bringing them inside making the house treatments pointless. We didn't have much of a winter so I'm guess flea season this year is going to SUCK.

Ive heard that if you vacuum EVERYWHERE once a day for a week you will kill the fleas and eggs...

Vacuuming is supposed to be more effective than poisons. Don't forget to throw the bags out or clean the trap.

Yes sevin dust has worked for us. You can not vaccuum enough, when you think you are finished, vaccuum once again. Throw away the bags. You may want to put a cover over your tank, turn off the a/c or heater also for awhile till you have finished with the vaccuum. Good luck.

vaccum w carpet fresh with flea killer sell at heb also there is a little sticky pad lighted with a night light fleas stick n die I saw it at walmart I think

Vacuum every other day for 10-14 days. This takes care of any that hatch later in the cycle.
I just wish I knew where my ferrets get so many fleas. I use cat flea drops on them, but it doesn't seem to work for more than a week.

I had this same problem a couple of years ago and almost broke down the tank because of it.Tried several powders,Sevin Dust was one and nothing worked.Then i got a hold of a spray called"The Enforcer".It worked wonders.Comes in a one gallon container with a spray nozzle.It is good because you carry it and can spray however how you want to.I turned off all fans and a/c.One treatment was all it took and i did not bother to cover anything on the tank.I just sprayed real low to the floor.You do need to be able to leave the house empty for one hour after treating.It is also for use on furntiure and bedding.Here is a link,it is the gallon size container kinda in the middle of the page.
