Thread: How to Remove Aggressive Fish?

Default How to Remove Aggressive Fish?

I have a brand new tank setup and it's my first saltwater tank. 36g. After the water cycled w/ live rock and levels in order, I added 4 damsels. They've been OK for 8 days. One fish is slightly larger and aggressive. I knew I needed to remove him--he went after the smallest one today and killed it. I want to take the aggressive fish out--HOW DO I DO THIS?? It's a reef tank and he's fast and smart. Smarter than me obviously. Chasing him with a fish net didn't work.

This is by far the best method I use for catching fish ( I have wrasses and it works on them). If your fish eat agressively i.e don't run away when you drop in the food, use a med size white plastic cup and drop a cube of food in it and hold it near the glass. Make sure all the pumps are off so the cube stays in the cup. If the fish aren't skiddish they will go in the cup after the cube. Quickly press the cup against the glass when the fish goes in and slide it out. I usually use a net when I have the fish in the cup to help keep it from jumping out (don't put the net in before you have the fish in the cup). This has worked on my wrasses and clownfish. Hope this helps

I have repeatedly requested the manufacture of toothpick harpoons to no avail!

Save yourself a lot of time and frustration, remove all the live rock and go after him. I tried everything to trap my fish killing, Blue Devil Damsel, nothing worked.
    Good Luck!

Thanks for all of the advice! I do have a lot of live rock. I am going to try the food-in-cup method. They are good eaters. Wish me luck!!

If the food in cup method doesn't work, I have had good luck by making the room totally dark at night and use 2 nets while hlding a little pen light in your mouth.
    Thanks,
