hey sorry for any confusion with me and bobby. But him and i are good friends( since highschool), and i often follow him to fish stores to check out stuff, while hanging out with him. so i got a tank, and put pretty much everything in there that i saw was cool looking. i have to admit i did go the the "****" place as bobby calls it for fish and advice. being petco, i learned they just wanted to sell me stuff. then went to fish stores and bought other fish.i do want really cool stuff, but then again i want them to last. so i took some of the fish back to a store. now that i get on here and getting blasted by everyone, i do realize i went about the whole fish thing the wrong way as i was already being told by my friend, oh well. i think im gonna look for a big tank( around one hundred gallon) so i can get some of the fish i want.... thanks for the advice though...hope other newbies made some mistakes, so im not the only one

No problem! Keep asking questions and welcome to MAAST! For a lot of people this hobby is sink or swim. If you do your research first and plan plan plan then you will be rewarded for it. If not you will spend a lot of money, kill a lot of animals, and burn out very quickly. So stick around...it only gets better...lol.

    Jack,

No one really gets "blasted" - it's just we ALL went thru the same mistakes, and it's frustrating when you see others repeat your own mistakes!

As long as one remembers these things: 1) Stores are in business to sell you what you want, need, and maybe what you don't need. Some are better than others. 2) you WILL run into self-professed experts both in person and online, that can be totally wrong. 3) This is not an exact science, and the state of the hobby is continually changing - over 35 years for me, and I'm still quite often wrong. The line between fact and opinion is very, very grey.

So all these stores knew tour tank size, and said it was cool for even one of them? Wow, that sucks.
