Comparison of 14 synthetic salts

I use aquariumwatertesting.com for my 2 tanks. i send them a monthly sample from each tank and get a result of about 14 different parameters. I also do weekly testing myself.

I thought people would be interested in this link:

They did testing on off the shelf salts and compare them all.

I currently use Red Sea Coral Pro Salt.

A question: what is the best at home test for Calcium levels or is a monitor like the pinpoint the way to go.

I test Ca at home with both a Red Sea kit and an API kit and routinely am in the 420-460 range from both tests ............trouble is my samples from Aquarium Water Testing come back around 300.

Any thoughts.

Have you tried the Salifert ca test kit? If not, I'd try one.

I use salifert, but have siice the beginning, and have never had my water tested by a 3rd party so I really have nothing to say how accurate they are. I notice that light and human error can make a slight difference in accuracy.

As far as the CA dropping to 300 I'd imagine during transport the water would degrade to some degree in the container, but that would just be a guess really.

Think I will get the Salifert Ca test kit.

Any experience with the American Marine Pinpoint Ca monitor?

The Tropic Marin test kit is pretty accurate, but it's not an easy test to take or to read...
