    Default Compatibility

We purchased a female "Social" wrasse. I have looked everywhere for compatablity issues. We want to add a "Clown Fairy" wrasse also been told it is a "Solarius"(sp) wrasse. I currently have the 'Social" wrasse and yellow tang. Will they all get along? Tank size 150 gal and 50 gal sump/fuge.

    TIA,

    Dave-

How bad do you want it? I think you have a big enough tank anyway. I don't know if this a bad advice or not, but sometimes that is the only way to find down. Fishes all act differently in different tank.

Thanks for the input. . .

Please don't be offended aquasport24, it's not a matter of how bad I want it I would like them to co-habitat without killing each other.

First off, that's a beautiful wrasse you've gotten yourself.

Second, we have had some success with persuading our fish to get along when it is a grey area of compatability. Every fish seems to have its own temperament that can vary a lot within a species, and then there is the issue of how crowded things are in your tank. It does not seem very risky to try to introduce the second wrasse in your 150g tank.

To improve your odds, try introducing at lights off time. If they are giving each other any trouble, have a piece of egg crate handy to section your tank into two halves. After about a week of this eyesore, you can remove it and the two fish should be used to each other and do fine.

    Good luck!

have you read all of this?

I think it can be done. One of the tips I got from that read, was to put your Social in quarantine and then once you get the Solaris you can add them to the main tank at the same time to better the odds they'll get along long-term. The other thing you got going for you is that the two spp. are different colors, sounds silly, but it plays into compatibility between spp. HTHs

Dave, you should be good to go with those two... just get the Solarensis a little bit bigger, or at least the same size as your social.
Haven't seen you in a while, it's good to hear you're working on restocking

Wrasses are funny in the fact that some species are very tolerent of other wrasses while other jsut don't like to get along. When I put my candy hogfish in my tank my christmas wrasse went nuts chasing it around. Eventually the hog started fighting back (bigger teeth) and now they both get along fine. I wnated another wrasse but don't think I'll do until I upgrade.

as anthony said, the wrasses can be a little "iffy", but for the most part the "fairy" wrasses are fairly tolerant of each other, and if the tank isn't big enough to do a group of the same species, males of different species will help each other show off and color up

Yeah we've been letting the tank sit for awhile. We will be in Sunday to pick up the naso!
