Thread: Question about dosing

  1. #1

    Default Question about dosing

I just purchase a bottle of purple up, and I was wondering if I should stop dosing my calcium while using it. Currently I dose calcium, and dk buffer daily, and I do religious 10 day 5 gallon water changes. I don't claim to know a whole lot about dosing anything. I just go with th advise of the local stores.

    My tank is a 30 long w/ 10 gallon sump. thanks-Joe

IMO I would keep up with the Calcium and alkalinity and stop the purple up. If you need the corraline to grow add the purple up and then test your Ca and Alk and add as needed. The purple up may lower your alk.

It is mainly calcium, but if dosed too much it will lower your alkalinity. You can supplement your calcium buffer with the purple up just be sure to test your calcium afterward. A sudden rise in Ca levels will cause your alk to drop.

I hate to knock a product, but I remember a MAAST meeting a few months ago, and there was a bottle of Purple Up in the raffle. Not only was it the LAST item to go, but there were several folks who "won" it and declined to take it home. When I see very successful reefers say "no thanks" to a free item, ya have to wonder...

2 part all the way. I used two bottles of Urple and would have better spent my money on B-Ionic. Thanks to the 2 part, I am finally starting to see good coraline growing.
