Thread: WTB Amazon

    Default WTB Amazon

I worked in a pet store for a few years and hand fed my fair share of parrots and macaws. About 3 or 4 years ago we got in this red headed amazon that I fell in love with. We had him up until a few months ago because he wasn't the most social bird but he did love me. I went in to visit him and check out cage prices, and the next day they sold him! He got a great home but I really really wanted to buy him. He was my buddy and went everywhere with me. I would prefer a Red Head/Green Cheek Amazon if anyone knows a breeder, but I would think about other Amazons as well. They don't have to be weaned, but I would prefer it. I'm looking to spend about $400-$500 and might get a pair so one doesn't get lonely when I'm at school. Even if you know a breeder of other smaller parrots like goffins or greys, I would be interested. I just really miss my birdie friend.

Or actually, I'd rather not support the exotic pet trade. If anyone knows of a parrot rescue I'd rather adopt one that no one wants. I used to know of one but I forgot the name.

I found this site that has a list of rescues in each state:

    http://www.netpets.com/birds/birdresc/birdgrp.html

and also this rescue out of texas:

    http://www.featheredfriendsforever.org/adoptable.html

I'm not getting a bird quite yet, kind of a big thing to jump into. Just glad I found some needy birds when I'm ready.
