i have a 46 gal bowfront aquarium that was home to an iguana. if i bleach it and clean it really well can i make it a reef or would that be unsafe for the corals and fish?

I would use the white distilled vineger instead of the bleach to clean it. Bleach may work, but it may leave some residue and the vineger is safer.

ok. i never thought of using vinegar to clean after reptiles. i've used it for removing hard water stains and build up though.

i would strip the silicone and replace with new silicone. I've always been told that urine can accumulate in the silicone. It only takes like 30 minutes.

    cheers,

I'd use rubbing alkohol before I'd use Bleach.

thanks! we're still thinking about it. not quite sure if we want to try it or just get a new set up.

I would sell it to someone who is going to keep a reptile in it and get a new tank that is designed for a reef...

For ammonia, use an acid - vinegar is great.

so as long as i clean the tank really well with vinegar i shouldn't have any problems? it'd be a least a mo before i set it up, i just wanted to get a head start on figuring out what was the best course of action. thanks everyone!
