I got home and while temp acclimating the zoo combo rock I got, I spooted this little creature swimming in the bag. It almost looked like a tiny aptasia but it was swimming like jellyfish using it's tentacles for propulsion.





Any Idea??

I believe its a free swimming hydroid.

Thanks Jim, that looks like that would be it! I'm glad I got it before I put it in the tank, but I do have a CBButterfly, but hopefully that was the only one.

I always freshwater/iodine dip my zoas before they go in the tank. I thoroughly inspect and clean off any non-zoa material as well. It's rare that I don't kill a nudi or two esp.

Yeah great advice I guess I need to start. When I didn't have a lot invested in corals I wasn't so concerned, but now it would be a much greater tragedy to introduce a pest, I am dealing with Monti eating nudies now in fact.

This is a glass anemone, similar to aptasia but they are swim (sometimes called swimming anemone). Copper banded butterfly fish will eat them, but you do not want to let these guys get started in your tank. Nasty! Aquatek used to have them in their front coral tank and they got major out of hand. They added 4 copper banded butterfly's which reduced the population, but they never completely got rid of them till they emptied the tank.

I won't give the name here but the LFS I got this one from had I guess 1000's in their tanks and I didn't even see them my wife did. LOL I guess I was looking at other "stuff"
