Building of the 58 Gallon Tank
This 58 gallon tank is going to be the upgrade to my current reef tank - a 24 gallon Aquapod w/ 150w HQI. Right now the -pod is chock full of SPS, zooanthids, and shrooms along with my pair of picasso clownfish with their BTA. I am excited about this new project and hope to get it right.... Suggestions always welcome and much appreciated.
Current Equipment List:
Tank:
- 58 Gallon Oceanic Tank (36x18x21)
- Oceanic Black Stand
- Black Oak Canopy (open on top and back)
Lights:
- (2) LumenBright Mini reflectors
- (2) 250watt 12,000K Reflux SE bulbs
- (2) Coralvue electronic Ballasts
- Icecap 430 ballast w/ (2) 39watt T5 UVL Super Actinic 420nm - going up for sale soon!
Equipment:
- Aquacontroller Jr. w/ pH and Temp. probes
- Octopus Xtreme Reef Protein Skimmer INT-PS-120 (Unfortunately not the one with the Sicce pump)
- Sump / Wet-Dry - no bioballs
- 1/15HP Prime Chiller
- CPR Aquatics HOB Refugium - Large
I tested just a single LumenBright and got too much light drop-off on the sides so I am going with 2 of these reflectors. Hope it is not going to be too much light or heat. There is not enough room in the canopy for running actinics as the reflector is too big - 16" in diameter on an tank with a surface area of 36"x18".
I am contemplating the tank dosing - continue with just B-Ionic and dose with a pair of dosing pumps or go with a calcuim reactor.
I really want a stable tank and good color and growth. The less day to day maintenance the better - I've got a full-time job, 2 boys, husband, dog, cat, housework, etc.
