    Default hunting

went to our ranch tues. and man there was so many things we saw and heard(morning and afternoon). to start off we got their around 5a.m. and just parked and got into our blinds saw two buck about 7-9 pointer they were 60yards away(according to our rangefinder). around 9 something i think maybe earlier we saw a doe go to the feeder and about 3 to 5 min later two bucks came out. they started sparing until the smaller of the two left lasted about a good 8-12 min(who knows) as soon as that happened something spooked them cause they took off real quick. around the afternoon we heard a turkey call and it sounded real close. we didn't see it but just heard it. the after noon sucked cause we didn't see anything or hear anything but pig. so once the sun started to set we decided to leave. when we reached the gate to leave we heard coyotes and saw pigs and deer on the road. were going back next week and left food out in the traps and feeder so we're going to see what happens. still waiting for that big buck to show its self so lets see what happens.

Amazing how it can be so much fun even without pulling the trigger eh? Gotta stay in that blind though until dark, after sunset is prime time!

No, hunting after sunset is NOT illegal. Legal hunting hours for game species, including deer, is 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset.

i believe bstreep might be right not to sure though. but yea even when we were looking at the deer through the scoope off the rifle and pathfinder started to feel my heart rate go up. like i said still waiting for that big one to show hopefull this soon either this tues or the following. left food in the hog trap and in the feeder so they should be eating especially since we have seen a lot of tracks by the feeder and in the trap. thinking about setting the hog trap but don't want to scare off any big bucks.

If you aren't sure of the law, you shouldn't be hunting...

I've been deer hunting in Texas for over 25 years.

    http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publicat.../hunt/general/

Legal Shooting Hours for all Game Animals and Nonmigratory Game Birds: from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. For information on sunrise/sunset hours, please look at: http://www.sunrisesunset.com/usa/Texas.asp.

Nope. Tellin' it like it is. If one doesn't know what legal hunting hours are, and is hunting at or after sunset... It is also indicative of someone who really needs to get a copy of the "Outdoor Journal". It's free and available where you bought your hunting license. Take into the blind with you, it makes good reading.

To me, this is kind of like putting $500 worth of fish in a 2 day old saltwater tank. If you don't know better, ask or educate yourself.

That being said, I'm am glad you had a great day. There's nothing like an early morning or late afternoon hunt in South Texas when the weather is great.

Yeppers, pick up the information book TPWD puts out every year before hunting seasons begin. You can find them anywhere hunting licenses are sold. Even if you are an experienced hunter, dates and limits change frequently so it's best to check it out before Mr. Game Warden stops by. If you are an inexperienced hunter, take the hunter's education class.

As far as hunting sights go, sounds like you have a good place. We haven't seen very many hogs this year compared to past years, probably due to lots of people catching them and selling them to the meat companies. Amazing how such a nasty animal can fetch big money in the fantsy restaurants in some parts of the world. I do admit the smaller ones are rather tasty when marinated and grilled just right!
