Thread: Nautilus TE Skimmer Cleaning?

    Unhappy Nautilus TE Skimmer Cleaning?

So I have been a member for sometime but had to step away from saltwater tanks for a while due to work. Now I am ready to get back in and to put the money and time into that it needs.

So first out of many questions coming...

I have a Kent Marine Nautilus TE Skimmer and it is not properly functioning at all. The chamber fills up but very little bubbles are going into the chamber to cause the foam. So I opened it up to clean it and found many hard white speckles. (Forgot the name of these.)

Anyway how do I clean the skimmer and what can I do to remove these? There are some very hard areas to reach and I am unsure how to remove it all.

    Any help would be appreciated.

If you aren't getting bubbles, you probably have a problem with your pump/eductor.

It is getting some bubbles... just not enough for that foam. I will connect another tube to it and see what that does.

Like, how much not enough? If you just did a massive water change or topped off with fresh water, your skimmer will take some time to prime.

Check your eductor air inlet for salt build up.

That was EXACTLY the issue. Thanks a TON it is up and working perfectly now.

So not the micro bubbles appear in masses. Sigh...

One way to clean our equipment. Place item in 5 gal bucket. Pour in a gallon of vinegar, and top off with water. soak for a few days. very effective at disolving cacium based encrustations.
