just dial down the valve until the foam is just below the collection cup.

Hmm...its been over 24 hours & I can't figure this thing out. My tank has been running only for about 2 weeks now...its a Biocube 14 with 10lbs live sand, 15-20 lbs live rock, 2 damsels. Either I see nothing at all in the catch-cup or if I crank up the air a little it fills with clean water from the bubble mist within a few hours. Will a new tank that is still cycling do this to a protein skimmer?

i have no experience with that particular one but it takes most skimmers quite a few days to break in and actually pull skimmate

be sure and clean it well, and if it has a venturi run water through it. also let it skim a few cups of water. also if it is a venturi style, make sure you add some sort of fine tuning(airvalve-.99)

Also, set it very low. It may take till overnight till you see some skimmate, possibly longer depending on bioload. It's been two days since I set my Euro Reef to a drier setting and I have 1/2" of skimmate in the cup.

It has a airvalve already for fine tuning, that's what I've been adjusting. I guess I'll give it a few more days.

yeah, leave it set to where the bubbles are popping into the collection cup, but not to where it's filling it that rapidly. as said above, skimmers have a break in period -a few days is a good rule of thumb- and then you'll see good results. Also, a lot of skimmers take almost a day or so after being shut off for a period of time to "re-prime" for lack of a better word.
