Thread: White spot on my tang

  1. #1

Default White spot on my tang

I have a white spot growing on my yellow tang. The tang is about 3". The spot is on very tip end of his pectoral fin. It's probably tripled in size since I first noticed it several weeks ago. It looks like Ich, but it's only one spot.

Any ideas? This is the best I could get for a picture. The tang refuses to pose long enough for me to photograph it. Hopefully you can at least see the size of it.

    Added another picture.

The only thing I see that's white is it's scalpel at the base of it's tail. There appears to be a skin lesion just behind it's gill. Maybe it rubbed a sharp rock and is getting an infection?

It's the best I could do for a pic. It's actually like a small cotton ball forming on the very end of the fin. That's just where it was when the camera flashed. It doesn't seem to affect his moving of the fin.

Lymphocystis. It's caused by a virus so meds won't help. Just keep the water quality high and feed him well (he is pretty skinny) and it'll go away.

Also keep the temp stable. Like every year, lot's of diseases showing up with the warm then cool then warm weather. Stress (water quality, poor nutrition, unstable temps, etc.) is what causes most diseases.
