Marking thread read

Why doesn't the system mark forums/threads as read after you view them? Every time I come to the website it still shows all the same threads/forums as new and I have to sort through what I already have looked at. Now, whenever I leave the site I have to search for the button to mark all posts read instead of it doing it automatically like the old site used to do.

ok I changed the way it marks the threads it should be like it was before. If not let me know.
