    Default Pom Pom Crab

    Question for the pros!

I'm thinking of adding a Pom Pom Crab to my young 120 gal reef.

I've done a bit of research on them and I'm trying to only add peaceful reef safe invertebrates and fish. I know that they can sting but is it enough to worry about disturbing the peace in my tank???

Has anyone kept these? They seem fun and looks like they would add some character to a tank?

    Fill me in...

    Thanks,

I have one, and he's peaceful. He just starts shaking his pom poms when anything gets close to him. Most of the time he stays in the rocks. Also when I was trying to find mine a lot of stores were calling the porcelain crab a pom pom crab, if you're going to order it make sure you tell them "boxer crab".

You'll never see it in a 120. They are tiny. I used to have them in my nanos and pico. Very cool little creature. Also, any crab eaters esp. wrasses will make short work of them. Why not set up another tank just for them?

What size tank do you have him in? What kind of hours does he keep? Thanks for the tips...I'm debating if he is worth adding to a 120gal.

I like the idea of having another tank just for them, how many can you keep per gallon? Right now I'm just exploring options for my 120gal.

He is in a 90 gal hex. I almost always see him when I feed and sometimes he just goes walking around but not often. I don't know about keeping more then one, but I was thinking about getting two more. I think it's worth it for the price even if he doesn't come out all the time.

VERY cool! Yeah I think I might do it, it will be an adventure to look for him if he tends to hide, and he will be that much more exciting to watch when he does come out.

I found this google video on one...he's not doing much in the video but they look like they have a ton of character. The whole concept is just hilarious.

Yeah they look real funny when something swims by them.

Also if you have to order it make sure they can get you one with two anemones. Some times they come with only one or sometimes they will hold polyps instead of anemones. Darby's in New Braunfels got mine. It took them a little while to get one in that actually had two anemones.

Ok, thanks for all the info. I would never even of thought to ask that.

I have one in my 125 gallon reef and he stays in a certain corner of rocks. The only time I see him come out is for feeding which he actually lets me stick a rod in the tank w/ squid for him. He comes out grabs the food and off hes gone again. The only time I see it get protective is when cleaner or coral banded shrimp try taking it, but peaceful towards all other living things.
