    Default Aarrrrgggggg! Wasted Time!!

You would think someone with my amount of experience could do something as simple as cover a drain with eggcrate, but noooooo, i had to go and get a snail stuck in there yesterday and my top off dumped 5 gals of fresh water into the tank. Now, you would think i learned my lesson, but noooooo i woke up this morning to another(this time Large mexican turbo) firmly lodged where no human can get to it, and another 5 gal of fresh water in tank. Yes i'm wearing my sign!!!

so two hours later, after taking a Drill to my overflow and drain line, i now have some shinny new eggcrate screens over my intakes... now lets wait a few days and see what affect this has on my corals

The one thing that did save me from total dissaster was the emergency overflow i installed,, It is a larger Screened drain that starts working if the tank gets too full
My Reef is Alive and well Despite My repeated Daily attemps to kill it!!

My first tank disaster was when I installed my chiller return, i plumbed it to the bottom of the tank, you know to get "more flow". With the sump return at the top right and the chiller return at the bottom left, it created some nice circulation. Well, I didn't know to put a siphon break in the chiller line and......the power went out while I was in Austin. We came home to 120g in the carpet (as you now hear that famous squishing sound). I had enough water made-up to refill the tank but forgot to turn off the ball valve to the return line and went to bed, only to wake-up to another 120g in the floor....so, I BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT!

Knock on wood but I have yet to have a aquarium pour onto any of my floors, but have made plenty of messes on my own.

Imagine a 500 G commercial breeding tank. Bang! The pump implodes releasing water and seahorses all over the floor. No it was not my tank, but I know who it happened to. You can always find somebody that has had worse luck than you. I had a 40 G happily drain onto my living room floor while I slept. Squish, Squish.
