    Default Easiest RBTA feeding ever.

Ok. I dont know if anyone else has experienced this but I havent and it was soooo cool to watch.
I have a RBTA and a gold stripe marron clown that of course took up residence in the rose. I was feeding the rose today and had an extra peice of silerside and just dropped it in the tank before I was going to feed the roase. This way the fish wouldnt go for the silverside before the rose took it in. The clown grabbed the peice of silverside and went straight to the rose and left it in the rose to eat. He would go back every minute or two and check the peice and kind of bump it around until the rose had it really good and tight. And whenever another fish neared the rose before the peice was consumed, he would get in between them to protect the rose and his lunch.

Just wanted to share this. It was very neat indeed. I want to get it on video the next time I feed.

it is a trait of clownfish,, they are actually not feeding the anemone but hoarding food.. they will grab extra food and take it back to their homes.. in most cases, as in yours, the home just happens to be an anemone. in either case it is very cool and benefits everyone

that's cool to witness, but FYI, make sure your BTA isn't expelling it's meal after lights out. many people now say to feed smaller particles, such as krill, mysis, or brine(i feed a combo). i used to feed silversides, but i saw my BTA's expelling, so i switched. i've also heard that the larger pieces of food take more energy to digest, so supposedly you'll see faster growth feeding smaller particles.

Yea, Ace told me today that they do that. I just never knew it. And I usually feed smaller peices. 1/4 to 1/2 inch long at the most. I'll try the krill on it and see if it likes it.

mike, i have heard that about clown just hoarding their food, but when my clowns were hosting in a large toadstool they never fed their coral, it only started when they hosted in an anoneme. no matter what studies they do until a clown fish can tell why they are doing it, you guess is as good as mine. i personally believe they are feeding it.
