Thread: placement of fans

    Default placement of fans

    http://hellolights.com/index.asp?Pag...amp;ProdID=542

I bought the coralife 4.75 cooling fans, 2 of them to be exact.

here is the question...where should i mount them?

what i have...a 50 gallon oceanic, 36'' long x18'' wide, with a canopy. i was thinking i would put the fans on opposite sides of the canopy one near the front of the tank and the other towards the back. is this a good idea?

i have 3 t5's and one 96 watt compact running, but will be adding metal halide in the near future....

    suggestions?

Is the top of your canopy open or closed?

For best results, position the fans so they are blowing air across the surface of the water. If the canopy is open, point them both at the water. If it's closed, then one pointing at the water and the other pulling air back out of the canopy.

I'm not positive but I think Ace said something about only blowing air in. No fans blowing out. Hopefully he will chime in at some point.

Thats correct, evaporation is the key to cooling.

Hey 5.0, if you pay them ( a guy named Tom, at the main store does this) 5 dollars, they will attach the power cord.

so i put the fans opposite sides of the tank facing in. its a closed canopy except for the back is open. cooling the tank off nicely.

Yes, air blowing in only, let it flow out the back.
