new eel and question about old.

Anyone have any thought as to

A.) How long do blue ribbon eels "typically" take to die in captivity?

B.) How long would you expect a blue ribbon eel to last if not eating?

C.) Would you consider 6 months or longer to be a success?

Mine is going on about 6 months or longer at this point and looks fatter than when I got it. Have never heard an "exact" diet or any good proof of anything they eat. About the only thing I feed my tank is Mysis shrimp. I do buy 40-60 ghost shrimp about once a month in vain hoping that by placing them in the water an hour after lights out that maybe it eats them but have never seen it personally attack anything. I'm hoping that something I'm doing is working because I've been told it usually takes less than 2 weeks for blue ribbon eels to die in captivity.

Cool looking eel Mike. I feed mine krill, ghost (very seldom), and mysis. I'm thinking of doing another tank just for a blue ribbon like yours. Gotta love the eels.

James what eels do you have now? How is the big tank going?

if you have any snails, crabs, or shrimp... he might be snacking on those or any small fish...

I just have the snowflake right now (since January 07), really thinking on adding another one maybe a seperate tank, but gotta read up on compatiblity first. The 240 is going GREAT. Still in the process of finishing the stand and canopy, but when it is all complete I will post pics.

IMO the best eel to have is a zeebra eel, I got one that is around 40" long. and fat as docile as she can be and cool to look at, I feed her a jumbo shrimp every other day, I dont care if she is snacking on snails, I can get pleanty more snails any day
I also had, for well over a month, :( a black ribbon eel until yesterday, she jump :cry :angry the worse thing about it is that I know how finicky they are to eat and mine was eating out of my hand it was soooooo cool to see her swim around and now there is no more, man that sucked

if get another one I'll cover the whole tank.

James, FA has a very nice lookin zeebra in one of their tanks is about a foot long and young, also has your snow flake eaten the goby? :P

I have a snowflake aswell ..... this eel is so tame until there is food in the tank... Ill put mysis or shrimp in the tank and he shoots out to see whats going on....

:lol No I think it was just curious to see what it tasted like that one day. So far all is well and everyone still has all limbs.
To catch everyone up on this, when he came over to my house about a month ago we were looking at my eel and watched it sneak up behind my diamond goby and put its mouth almost entirely around the goby's mindsection. The goby darted out of harms way and I quickly feed the eel some shrimp. Pretty exciting to say the least.
