    Yes and no. Like everything in the hobby it depends upon your tanks goals. Some people say that certain soft corals and some branching LPS prefer water that is a little murky. Examples that I know of: zoa, goniopora, hammer, frog spawn, Elegance, star type polyps, and xenias. These corals seem to thrive in water rich in nutrient. SPS seem to prefer sparkly clean water and fish won't mind either.

    Yes, Corals and Clams grow from the particles/polution in the water. If we remove everything then we have to feed our corals/clams. Doesn't make much sense. It is a fine line because if you let it get out of control then you have a dirty tank. If you have wall to wall corals your tank is going to require a lot of food to fulfill all there requirements. If you have a fish only/ few softies tank then you can't filter enough. It is kind of like the the phrase "Live and Learn"
