Point and Shoot Camera

Ok before I go into this I already have a Minolta Dimage Z2 that is real close to a DSLR and takes great pics. With that said Im wanting a point and shoot around $300 so that I have something small that fits in my pocket but still take good fish pics. Anyone have any suggestions?

we have a nikon d80, lol its about 1500 with the lens! Alot of the digis around that price will take good pics, look in our photo forums, there is a post by "The Other Guy" with settings to be modified for max performance. Cross reference that.

If you want a pocket camera - not one that takes especially great tank photos - I'd go for a Canon SD. I take about 15,000 photos a year, and the Canons are great. Rechargable batteries that take about 2-300 photos between charges. An LCD you can see in SUNLIGHT, a durable metal housing, and great & cheap parts, when/if you need them. I'm VERY hard on cameras, and I'd be hard pressed to buy something else. Most appraisers carry either a Canon or a Kodak. Kodaks 'cause they have a wide angle lense. The 800 has a much wider than typical lens. I currently use an SD800, with image stabilization. Less than $300. Try: www.slickdeals.net (NOT COM). Nano-reef.com has a few really good threads about this. Their overall consensus is the cannons are great for macros. I would check out Techbargains.com they have great deals on cameras.

I actually prefer the Nikons for their macro capabilities, but I own three Canons (G3, SD3IS, and Digital Rebel) because I like the overall photo shooting better.
I do like the new Nikon DSLR that is selling for around $500 now though.

Like I said, if you want a camera for closeup work, look elsewhere. I see that on www.slickdeals.net, Office Depot has an SD800 that can be had for $280.

I use it mostly as a P&S for family stuff but it will take some great shots of the tank.
