Thread: How to fatten up my clown?

Default How to fatten up my clown?

I have a Gold Stripe Maroon Clown that is very healthy and eats a ton, but compared to some other clowns I have seen she looks skinny. I have had her for at least 4 months maybe a little longer. I feed about 1/4 of a block of myisis shrimp every other day, and feed NLS small fish pellets every day. I also have a pseudochromis and 2 small damsels in the tank. Should I be feeding more? Should I be feeding something different? Any ideals on how to make her gain some weight?

Get it a mate. If you lucky the one you have now will turn female and get really fat!

Would it work if I got a true perc? I have wanted one for a while but I know they are less aggressive. So I don't know if one would make it

Nope. Gotta mate up in their own species. If you mix clowns, you run a high risk of one killing the other. But there are instances of different clown fish sharing the same tank.

Well I would wonder if the other fish you have are eating the food before the clown can get to it as they are a bit more aggressive, but you say it is eating a ton so that's not the case. I know when I had a pair of clowns they were somewhat timid about going after food I had put in the tank and the other fish would usually grab it. I finally started feeding with a turkey baster so I could drop the food right in front of the clowns at their anemone. I would say as long as it is eating regularly and doesn't look sick in any way, not to worry too much about it. You can try what Lonestar suggested by adding another clown. If it doesn't fatten up it will at least have another fish of it's own kind to hang out with.
