Thread: puffer compatibility?

    Default puffer compatibility?

obviously crabs, shrimpm, snails, clams and similar items are incompatible w/ a pufferfish...

what about starfish? are they a snack too?

my striped burrfish never even got near any stars. never nipped or even toyed with my hermits, but I would fear putting a clam in. I hand feed him a clam daily, and he eats somtimes as many as 2 cubes of brine/bloodworms. My puffer is too concerned with me feeding him to worry about anything in the tank. Sometimes he spits at me when I look over the top of the tank.

yeah, i would never risk a clam, talk about an expensive snack.

so they generally leave starfish alone.

    good to know.

    any other compatible inverts?

    hermits seem risky.

mine doesn't nad never has even looked at a hermit funny. I have seen it bite a rock or two, but never anywhere near a hermit. Oh yeah, I didn't lose any peppermint shrimp either. I wouldn't try a cleaner shrimp though since they are more active than a pepper during the day.

In my aggressive reef I have: A porc puffer, two groupers, a trigger, a SFE, harliquin tusk. Of all of them , the porc is the MOST passive of them all. I have snails , hemits , starfish, crabs, cleaner shrimp corals with very few issues.
