Default Anyone work for Uhaul, know someone or some tricks?

Dave (Prof) and myself are moving some large equipment out of SA to ATX this weekend and are now planning to acquire a Uhaul. Anyone on here work for Uhaul or know anyone that does? Probably going to need the middle sized truck and trying to figure out if it will be cheaper to rent one and drive it both ways, paying for the extra gas or paying the extra fee for "one way" and maybe save some money on the roundtrip gas price.

Anyone got any coupons or discounts from their insurance companies, phonebooks, etc?

Might check on driving to SA to pick up the Uhaul with a car dolly so you can drive both back to Austin 1-way with it. You need to look at what they charge per mile in addition to the daily rate and calculate what it would cost to drive here and back with it as that might be more expensive. Also, if you could fit the stuff in a trailer and have a truck with a hitch, that would be much cheaper as they are only like $30 to $50 a day depending on the size and lots of places rent trailers.

I BELIEVE Home Depot has a coupon in their free "Moving Packet".

Having just done this (my eldest daughter)... Try pricing it out on their website, both as a local and a 1 way.

one way will most likely be more$. oh, and ryder has MUCH better maintained equipment, and MUCH better customer sevice, should you have a problem. i worked for a moving company for several years, so i've been round and round with the various rental companies on several occasions.

penske's actually the best IMO, but there aren't too many of their stores around. they concentrate more on comercial accounts, but they will rent to individuals. there's a location in S.Austin, on 71 i believe? brand new trucks! not some '73 international with 487000 miles that uhaul would try and rent you for a move to idaho!

All I know is Uhaul doesn't rent trails to Fords. I drove all the way to Oklahoma City to move a friend down, found out I couldn't get a Uhaul, so with no other rentals that would let me take the truck back to SA, I had to shove a house full of furniture in my little Explorer. It worked somehow, but since the mattress was strapped to the hood, we had to get in and out of the car through the window :(

Thanks guys. I can get a huge trailer for free but it's not an enclosed trailer and my sidekick does not wish to use it for his system. We will use every inch of the 16x6 trailer for both our tank moves so little trucks and mini trailers are out. It'd take the entirety of my girl's Ranger just to move my skimmer.

As for the one way problem, it won't be a problem. As I said there are 2 of us, well actually probably about 4 of us. Someone will be able to drive the car or truck back behind us.
