It will end up where it wants to be, anyway.

Just be careful as it will move as it pleases as stated by Bigbird. They will also sting and kill anything in its path.

yeah i know that i was just wondering what a helpful hint would be to try to keep it still i got it to stick to a place for now but at least there is nothing where it can get sucked up

For mine I put it in one corner of the tank and it moved around a few inches over a couple of days then buried itself in the corner. Of course it's now facing away from the front of the tank and I'm stuck with it there. The foot buried itself in about 6" of sand all the way to the bottom of the tank. The foot is against the glass so i can see the whole thing.

Get it close to where you want it and plan on holding it there for about 5 miuntes. They will generally begin to seek out a footing, but as everyone has said, they will move around. I had one in the "perfect" spot for 6 months, then one day it up and moved. I lucked out since I like the other spot as well. Carpet anemones are not an easy creature to keep alive. High light requirements and need occasional feedings to prevent them from eating your livestock. FYI, a few of my fish have accidently brushed over mine and quickly died from the sting.

When you upgrade your lights, be prepared for your anemone to get up and move around again. A change in light or flow usually triggers all my anemones to take a trip around the tank. It's amazing that they find their way back to the same place again, usually.
