I just use flat black spray paint from home depot. $1 a can, can't beat it.

What about those cheap pre-printed backings you tape on to the back of the tank? I don't know exactly how they look, but maybe it'd be easier than painting.

The pre-print backing will drive you up the wall. Moisture and salt creep go down between the paper and glass... a real pain.

I used Acrylic for glass (Hobby Lobby 1.39- 1.99) Painted it on quick and easy. Just don't go back over it after it starts to dry
I designed my own background with shades of blues and greens progressing to black around the base. Over time may flake a little if there is salt creep spots, but it's easy to touch up.
O, yea! now the right ear!

Thanks, spray paint sounds easy. So, it's off to the store I go.

well even tho he went with spray paint thats great thats what i did however if you have your system up and running and dont want to tear it down to spray paint it you can use those pre print vinyl ones and get some petro. jelly and use a credit card to adhear it to the back of your tank then that solves the salt creep etc issues other than that i used glass acrylic paint from hobby lobby a dowel rod and a little roller to paint the back of mine
