    Default yet another teacher thread....

I was wantiing to know how 'teacher of the year' works in other districts? I was named T.O.Y. here at JBMS, but it is a funny situation...... It seems as though it was a popularity contest (I am amazed that I won as I have P.O'd some of my cohorts on this campus), as I feel other teachers here are more worthy of the "award" than myself. It was a faculty vote that determined TOY, is it the same in other districts? Do other districts offer any kind of incentive to winning this "award"? (like cash, extra day off, etc...) Seguin does not. I get a parking space, but it is where all the kiddos hang out, so I wont use it as my truck has already been vandalized here on campus! I have to write an essay, be interviewed and have a classroom observation done-- Sounds to me more like punishment!! Oh well, just wondering what the other districts policies are.......

Sounds like next year you need to withdraw from the running. Thanks for what you do regardless.

I am grateful that a Special Education teacher was recognized, and yes I AM very proud...... But, I feel that popularity and good teaching are 2 completely different things. I know that the essay, etc.. is for district wide T.O.Y., and I have no problem with these directives (actually, I am looking forward to showing off my kiddos and what we do in class!) I was wondering if any other districts run their program differently. I have an Aunt that retired from Houston ISD after 40+ yrs., and she says that it is different in Houston, although she did not elaborate (82yrs old, so she cant remember every detail..). Dont get me wrong, it is a wonderful honor to be the standout teacher among 50+ other teachers on this campus. But there are so many great teachers here who go out of their way to help these kids succeed, I want them all to be recognized!

I might have sounded ungrateful, which is definitely not the case, I am just wondering what happens outside my little world....

Congrats on the teacher of the year award!

I am more than certain that the award is well deserved even if it appears that the contest is not all based on skills. Most teachers deserve awards for their work and are never recognized. Glad to see that you are taking one for the team (i.e. essay and interview :P ).

    Congrats Erick!

A Speds teacher won at the RRISD elementary where I am currently student teaching. Not sure how they chose. My cooperating teacher was in the running, but lost out.

That is super Erick. Here at northside ISD your peers nominate you. Then you kiss *****. But to be nominated is an outstanding statement about your ability as a teacher.
