The first pic looks the best. The rest are somewhat out of focus and seem a little shaky. Are you using a tripod?

BTW which camera did you get?

i like the first one best too, the af problems came from all of the fur on them and wanting to focus on different points. i was really just playing around trying to learn some of the cameras features and wasnt expecting shots near as good as i got without a macro lens and using a flashlight for lighting, lol the last shot of the table was just a meh shot, without flash, just to show the setup. i knew it would be blurry as soon as i snapped it haha

    no tripod, all handheld

    i have a canon 30d

Other than the Canon EF 100 macro lens, what other macro lenses have you tried or do you know anything about. I've seen some Canon 35-105, and 35-70 lenses out there on Ebay but don't see the specs on these. I've used that sigma for macros but with the distance minimum distance being a little over three feet make it hard to get the shots I really would like. I ended up deciding to keep that camera after all along with the others I have. I have too much fun with it and now I can use the new one for on the go pic taking.

I have noticed a lot of noise in the S3IS pics that I've been taking, especially flash pics. I made sure that the settings were not on Auto Hi/ISO to make up for taking pics in dark. Maybe just need to work a little more with the custom modes to try and get them correct.

i would be lying if i said i knew a lot about the macro lenses. check out some review at fredmiranda or dpreview before you drop a dime on any of them. its just not something i would use enough to justify the price. i could see me buying a nice fisheye or wide lens over a macro.

you have a great setup. the only thing i would suggest to you is ebay that sigma and replace it with the APO version of the same lens or pickup a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 XR Di. the apo version of the sigma will give you much better colors and IIRC might be a tad faster. the tamron 28-75 is the best general carry around lens i have seen. it seldom leaves my camera.

i also use the s2 as my general carry around camera. it is probably the best point and shoot my hands have ever held and thats saying a lot. i bought my mom a sd600 for xmas and considered sending her the s2 and keeping the sd so i could keep it in my pocket but i just couldnt bring myself to do it haha. i love the S1-S3 lineup.
