Live rock

If you read my "interest in eel" post you know I got some LR, however it looks like dead rock, it has virtually been in darkness in FOUL 1.021 SG water that felt pretty cold to me and an airstone for cirlulation in a 40g for God knows how long. I did notice a few "masses" like maybe a closed up anenome or i dunno soft fleshy looking buds, the largest being about 1.5" across. I also see some yellow mass on the underside of a couple rocks I am assuming is probably (soon to be dead since I exposed it to air) sponge, and a red tape worm looking critter so far.

It's all white and has no corraline on it at all that I can see. It's pretty dense rock and almost completely covered in dead barnacle shells.


So what do you think the prognosis is?

I'd say scrub the dead stuff off and put it in some fresh saltwater to start curing it.

Is it still wet? I would do three or four 50% water changes over the next week, add a heater and powerhead, then move it to your tank.

If it has been in salt water for a while it will be fine with some water changes. To be on the safe side you can add one or two pieces a day until everything is moved.

What you are describing sounds like sponges and worms. Good things in live rock.

Yeah i kept it damp for the 30 mins or so it was in the cooler and covered it with wet paper, I then swished it and lightly brushed all the algae off and put it in the QT, I hope lots of goodies start growing, she had lots of corals at one time. I've heard some LPS and softies can make some great comebacks

FYI I also got a 3 stripe damsel, REAL FAT, he is swimming around pretty good now an colored up nice, I just can't believe anything survived in that cess pool
