    Default Nano Crashed

The heater went haywire in my daughters nanocube yesterday and cooked the tank and its inhabitants. The water was at 95 degrees when she found it and was starting to get cloudy. We turned the heater off and let it sit overnight. When we got up this morning, boy did it smell nice. I have spent most of the day getting it cleaned up. She has decided she no longer wants a tank in her room. This is probably a good thing since she was to lazy to care for it anyways. Teenagers :angry . Well I threw out the sand figuring I would not need it again. The rock I put into an old salt bucket with a powerhead and saltwater.

Here is my question. I am ordering a new CADLights 22 gallon tank tomorrow and figure I can reuse this rock. Any idea how long until the rock will be OK to put into a tank again? I have an old sump and a skimmer that I could put the rock in if that would clean things up quicker.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Oh Yeah!!! Not as bad as the tank did. I have it in about 2.5 gallons of water and have already changed about a gallon or so out.

    Thanks,

Do daily water changes of about 50% and the 'bad' stuff will clean up pretty quickly. If you can put a skimmer on the rock I would recommend it. The rock shouldn't need more than a couple of days but I would probably wait a week before adding it to a tank.

Thanks for the reply. I am ordering the tank tomorrow and probably will not get to set it up for another few weeks. The new tank will be my Christmas present this year. I do have to shar it with the dogs though. My Bulldog pup loves to sit and watch the tank. Here is the tank I am getting:

Does anyone have any ideas of what I could run in the Nano to get rid of some of the smell? I was thinking either Vinegar (replacing one bad smell with another) or a cap full of bleach. Any other ideas?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

no problem running bleach through the tank as long as that is all it is, no smelly bleach blends, just straight stuff... then run it w/ dechlorinator.

might wanna do a run w/ some muratic acid as well, that will get rid of any calcerous buildup, like coraline algae.
