Thread: Clear PVC

    Default Clear PVC

Has anyone used clear PVC on their tanks? I've been going through Savko.com for my plumbing parts and was thinking of getting some.

One of the drawbacks is that the clear PVC will grow algea alot easier than standard sch 40 or 80 would. This would not be a problem for me because I was going to use it on my drains. The drain area will not be exposed to any light that would promote algea growth. I just thought it would be a neat feature when doing the plumbing.

I will be ordering a bunch of clear PVC from this place right after the Christmas holidays to build a 6' tall counter current skimmer. If you or any one else want to jump in and put your orders in with mine It would help everyone on shipping. BTW has any one put together one of the tall skimmers from "snailmans" plans from RC. But back to the orig question of using this stuff. I've used it in plumbing to show the effects of diffrent things used in drain clearing. Its just as easy but will be dirty looking if alge starts to grow. If you want something "clean " looking just get one of those big pipe cleaners and run it through once in a while.

I may take you up on the offer and order with you at the end of December. I'm going to get a few true union ball valves and some other parts. Thats probably when I will have the cash anyways. ;)

Yeah even standard white PVC on my old system has some nice stuff attached to the walls when I took it apart. So I'm sure the clear PVC will do just the same.

The plan for the new tank is to have both ends covered by the stand/canopy. They outside tank walls will be painted black. One side will have the drains from 1 or 2 bulkheads and the other will have the return flow. I will have cabinet doors on either side for maintenance access and also for possibly storing ballasts and electonic displays. There will also be true union ball valves in there to close the flow for the 'just in case' clause.
