Yeah, the money would be much better for any research group no matter who it is instead of some rock that is probably now completely dead after sitting in a government impound lot. Not sure what good that will be for their research. Hopefully they haul it all back to the area it was illegally taken from. The corals will be gone but at least they could create a habitat for fish and other creatures.

If this would have happened in Texas they would have had to pay a replacement cost. Lets see 42,000 lbs @ 5 lbs per rock avg. 8,400 pieces with 3 types of corals per rock average 25,200 @ $10 each $252,000. Plus the fine.

I can already see them raising their prices so that we (the consumers) help pay off their huge fine.

only if you continue to buy their products! practise responsible consumerism. if all the aquarists banded together, we could impose a far harsher penalty, like bankrupcy!
