Thread: MAAST Cart Max Load Limit

Default MAAST Cart Max Load Limit

I know the MAAST cart has carried some pretty heavy glass tanks, specially those Oceanic Bricks, but I don't know if it's ever carried 850 lbs since a 180 brick weighs 460 lbs and was wondering if it needed to be beefed up to support that kind of weight or maybe more due to dynamic weight.

I was thinking of re-inforcing the cart by adding a 2X4 in the center of the cart on each side as shown in grey.

    What do you Engineers/Steve think?

Not a bad idea, 2x4s are dirt cheap anyway. couldnt hurt anything....

My 215 brick has an Oceanic stand under it, and it only has 8 2x4s for vertical support. That's it. I'd think the cart - which handled 2 moves of my 215 brick without groaning - would handle your weight just fine. I believe that on one of the moves, we had Gary in his thong INSIDE the tank on the cart!

I see the wheels as being the weakest point on the whole cart. Are they pretty heavy duty or cheapos?

Have to agree with Ross. If anything gives on that cart it won't be the wood frame, but the wheels. If you hit any kind of bump while rolling it with that much weight, the wheel frame could bend or the pin holding the wheel could break. I'm sure they are heavy duty wheels, but I see that as the only thing that could give.

You could add the 2x4s just to be on the safe side. As the cart is now, it should hold the weight fine. I agree what was said with the wheels. The wheels should hold fine on the downward force. Its just when you hit a little lip or edge of a walkway (like a step), thats when I would be worried about them.

Well I'm going to add the 2 x 4's and hope the wheels will hold since they look pretty heavy duty when compared to the one's on the furniture dolly's which can hold 250 lbs each.

"Wheels here also" First thing I thought of.

Don't let your stand maker put the extra 2x4 on! LOL
