    Default New banded Shark baby

    Hey all,
I just bought a banded cat shark over the weekend and I am looking for advice from any of you guys who have kept such a specimen over the years.
I have been researching them for a while and need some real world advice on making sure that this little guy gets off to good start.
I particularly need to make sure he keeps eating.
I have seen information on feeding/offering food daily mainly ghost shrimp or squid. He has plenty of room to swim.
I make sure he has the lights off at least 14 hours a day. This is the time that I have tried to feed him but, I think he is still settling into the new enviroment. I did have the LFS feed him in front of me to make sure that he was not too finiky. They used ghost shrimp.
I have had blue leg hermits in the tank and don't mind if he eats those perodically. Is there any invert I can put in my tank which can be a food source? I just hate having to rely on ghost shrimp which will not last long in the tank. Eventually I would like to put him on a prepared foods diet but, if someone has better advice I am eager to learn.

only advice I can give is you need a huge skimmer if you don't already have one and I'd love to see a pic. Good luck I hope you get him eating soon.

I had one and fed it raw shrimp from HEB & Octopus but it really loved the shrimp. I would let the shrimp thawe and cut the pieces to where he could gulp them then put a piece infront of a powerhead so he could get the aroma, once he came out looking for it I would put it right in front of him and dangle it a bit until he took for it. I never had a problem feeding him, he was always eager to eat.

    Good Luck.

Yes I do recommend you use some Aqua Tongs.

We hatched ours about 3 months ago and he ate frozen krill handed to him on tongs within 3 days. He likes to eat at lights out and with the room lights still on. He's doing great and hasn't touched his tank-mates.
