Wavebox Question

I've also wanted a tunze wave box and I'm getting a new tank soon but do you any of ya'll know if a tank 30" x 30" x 21" tall would be too small for it? Would the wave be too big even if I dialed it down?

that seems small for a wave box..55 gal is the smallest and it should be a long.. with a cube i'm not sure you would get the natural wave action

also what scares me about the wavebox is that the life expectancy of your fish tank is shortened because of the stress on the seams...

On a glass aqarium perhaps but with a acrylic tank that might not be as big of an issue.

From what I hear, the waveboxes only work well on long tanks. Anything 4 foot or longer.

I've never heard the part about them busting seams. I live here in Austin where Roger directly imports all of the Tunze equipment that is redistributed for sale around the US. Aquatek has been using them for quite sometime without any troubles.

Do you have any links to read about broken tank? I'd like a look at them as my girl has already told me my Xmas prezzie is a Tunze Wavebox for my 75g. If true I'd think a 4'er would bust before a 6'er, a 7'er etc... That would be very important to me with a smaller tank.

ask Roger about it in the reefcentral Tunze forum. I believe Tunze mentions this in the lit. about the wavebox. they dont specifically speak of busting tanks, but there is talk of the stress shortening tank life. i imagine this would have little effect on a acrylic or very well made glass tank, though you may want to be cautious when considering use in an older or budget tank. i dont think the 4' would suffer sooner than the longer tanks as the wavebox frequency must be adjusted to each tank, plus the 4' 75g is a pretty strong geometry IMO.

The wave box sounds like it would work great on a 75g. The glass is considerable thicker than a 55g plus its a little deeper in width too.

I think Tunze throws that tid bit of info of the seams just to cover any loose ends. It 'could' happen but most likely on a well built tank, would not. Hopefully if you have the money to invest in Tunze, you already know to buy better built tanks....
