Thread: Aqua C Remora leaking at air screw.

  1. #1

Default Aqua C Remora leaking at air screw.

The small white screw that goes into the top of the gray elbow.
I noticed that my skimmer sounded louder and I looked and there is water leaking out of the white screw. I took it out and squirted the threads with a turkey baster and checked the threads and they looked fine but it is still leaking now that it is back in. Do I need a new little white screw?

    Oh yeah no foam either

    How old is the skimmer?

Try wrapping some teflon tape around the treads.

That's pretty serious, considering making foam is what a skimmer does. When you say "no foam" you mean it's not building up into the collection cup, or there's really no bubbles in the skimmer?

Seeing as how its an injector type skimmer, as long a the pumps working, the only way there would be no foam (in the reaction chamber) is if the injector itself were clogged, that would also explain why its leaking at the clean out. Might wanna use a small bottle brush and clean the injector.

matt: well at the time it wasn't making any foam being pushed into the cup. It will produce skimmate for a while but then it will just stop.

JimD: Is the easiest way just to undo the screw and go in from the top?

Where should this screw be set? I mean how many times should I turn the screw driver when putting the screw back in. I counted 6 rotations when I took it out but I do not know if the guy every adjusted it before me. What is a good refrence point when I put the screw back in?

Just unscrew it all the way out, then clean the injector with a brush like I said, then, carefuly align it back on the hole, be careful not to crossthread it and tighten it so its just snug probably about a quarter inch above the gray tube. Whatever you do, dont screw it all the way in so it falls into the little chamber below, if you do, youre screwed. Remoras can be a little finniky at times, adjust the cup so its about an eigth inch below the water surface. Ive never gotten any sludge out of mine, mostly green tea, and typicly, they can be rather loud.
