    OK...I started with 1 280wat PC (2 50/50 and 2 12K) and 2 (175) watt 10K Metal Halides with (2) 96 watt 50/50.

I had no room to access the tank without removing the PC and didn't have full coverage of the tank.

    Time to consolidate

Mike came to the rescue with wire cutters a metal saw and a vision. :o

Now one fixture (4) 175 watt metal halides (2) 96 watt 50/50 PC's and everything went together with not even a milimeter of space inbetween!!!!!

CafeRacerMike should be changed to CraftyRacerMike.

Thanks...because of heat and other issues I decided to do this instead of the canopy and SE bulbs/reflectors

So ya'll made that out of a dual MH unit or what? Those are 175w DEs? That is an Odyssea fixture isn't it?

Yes it is an Odyssea. I gutted my fixture, same as Kyle's (I have a friend that sells the stuff dirt cheap) and swapped my 6"x6" 175W 20K DE bulb and reflectors to 12"x6" 250W 14K Pheonix DE using a nice reflectors and sockets from Hellolights. I got 2 barely used Icecap 250s from a member here at MAAST for a good price. I got carried away when I went to change from the stock 20K bulbs to 10K's. Instead of changing them I ended up doing what I explained to my fixture. Well Kyle had the same fixture and ballast so I took my leftovers to him and built that fixture for him. We also did some tweaking as the PC ballast was located in the fixture. Now it mounts under the stand. Also had to move the moonlights around a bit.

I'm glad Kyle is happy. It took a few hours but like he said, it looks factory.

About hte 175w DE. It is a mystery. I got slammed a few times on this site myself for mentioning that I had 175w DE MHQI bulbs as I was told they do not exist. It is strange as I have read many places that HQI bulbs will not run from magnetic ballasts. But both things are in direct contrast with the Odyssea ballast. The stickers and labels on the actual ballasts read 175W. They are magnetic or are seriously ugly for electronic. Each ballast has what appears to be a large cap and a starter as well. So maybe they have figured a way to run HQI on Mag ballasts using all this extra gear. I still think they are 150w bulbs that are stamped 175W as no other brand sells a 175W DE, and I don't mean aquarium stuff I mean any other bulb manufacturer I could research.

I have a link somehwere on ARC (austin reef club) with pics and an explanation of what I did to my fixture.

I noticed that Odyssea had advertised the 175w DE bulbs, but couldn't figure out why no other place in the world sold them. Nice work on the fixture.

Being an Odyssea dealer.... The bulbs are 150 Watt HQI. I know this post is old but I just thought I would clear up the question. I have no idea why they put 175 on the box and equipment. But, I had to purchase a replacement bulb and the distributor said there is no such thing as a 175W HQI and the bulbs in there Metal Halide fixtures are 150W. Maybe the ballast are 175W so that the bulb is not under powered?? But I know for sure that the bulbs are 150W.
