Huh? There is no real maintenance on a sump. Water flows in, water flows out. Other then cleaning the return pump every few months there's not a lot to do. In the long run your are going to have a lot less "hassle" with a sump then with a HOB skimmer. Besides with a sump, you have a lot more flexibility on how to deal with issue when they arise. For example, where to put a phosphate scavenger when an algae bloom occurs.
