    Default Need computer help

O.K. so I purchaced an Escient (music manager) and it requires a internet connection so I had to purchace a Netgear XE 102 to get internet connection to my living room and I also had to purchace a Linksys switch so I could plug in my cable modem and get internet to both the computer and the XE 102. At first I had a connection to the Escient only. After moving the plugs around I now only have a connection at my computer. I have one cable comming from the modem to the switch and a cable going from the switch to the computer and a third cable from the XE 102 to the switch. In my living room the Escient has a cable going to the other XE 102.

I hope this makes sense to someone so I can get this figured out.

    TIA

    Clint

Thanks Brian but I have tried every port on the swithch and still nothing. I can switch the plugs for the computer and the XE 102 and the computer continues to work.

Let me see if I understand your setup... You have your Broadband modem hooked up to your linksys switch (is this a combo switch/router or just a switch?) then from your switch you have your pc hooked up and one side of your XE 102. The the XE 102 connects via wireless to the other XE 102 which is plugged into your Music Manager?

There are a few things with this setup that could be wrong.

    1. Can you ping either side of the XE 102 setup? Are the Escients setup with DHCP or static addresses? I've delt with similar systems before. Using a ping will tell you at what point the connectivity is failing.

    2. At one point you COULD connect to the Escient and now you cannot. Did you move the side the Escient is plugged in to a different outlet?

    3. What model is the Linksys switch?

sounds like you need to replace the switch with a router
